On 2 September, renowned speakers Daniel Principe and Emma Tabacaru were welcomed to RPCS to speak to the boys and girls from years 6-12. The focus of the talks was to educate and empower our students to challenge the current cultural expectations being presented to them relentlessly via social media and other online and marketing outlets. Both speakers expertly championed the boys and girls and encouraged them that despite the difficulties they face in growing up in this progressive and self-indulgent and overly sexualised world, they have the capacity and ability to stand firm and true to their core beliefs and values. Further, it was impressed upon them that strength doesn’t need to look like doing everything they can to be ‘on top’ socially, physically, or academically. True strength comes from one’s character and is displayed by standing up against and standing up for what is right.
As Philippians 4:8-9 says, 8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. <sup9 Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.
I want to thank the parents and families that made the effort to come out to the evening session that Daniel Principe ran. It was an eye-opening event where Daniel clearly and openly presented to parents the raw challenges that our young people are facing in this digital age.
