On Thursday 27 June, students from Year 11 Music presented an impressive set of musical items for the annual Music Performance Evening. The night was attended by parents, staff, students and alumni, and it was wonderful to see both new and familiar faces in the audience to support our talented Year 11 students.
The Performance Evening provided our students with a rare opportunity to perform for a live audience and showcase their talents beyond the classroom. It is my great privilege as a music teacher to see these students perform regularly in their music classes. However, often they only get to present the pieces they have worked so hard on to their classroom teacher and their peers. In fact, more than one parent remarked that they had not had the opportunity to see their son or daughter perform live on stage before.
Performing in front of their friends, family and teachers was exciting for our students too. Seop Lim said, “The feeling of people watching us use our God-given talents really inspired me.” Amy Rose, another Year 11 Music student, said that she really appreciated the chance to “perform for more than just a mark.”
Our Year 11 students worked exceedingly hard to prepare a program of solo and ensemble items from a variety of genres and styles. Each student performed in at least two items. Many of them also assisted in each other’s performances, some performing as many as six times! One such student, Jazmine Nery, said she was “proud of the accomplishments and talents of her peers as well as her own.”
All Year 11 Music students are to be congratulated on their musical growth and achievements this year. Thank you, Year 11, for your confident and exciting performances. It was a thoroughly enjoyable night of music. Thank you also to Mr Chavura and Year 10 Music student Tori Oreshkin for assisting with sound and lighting on the night, and to Mrs Odonga for capturing the evening with wonderful photographs.
