Year 11 student and school prefect Sasha Oreshkin from Regents Park Christian School has recently received the Jason Clare MP Community Service Award.
Sasha’s dedication to community service is evident in many ways. She gives her time generously to many school activities and regularly assists teachers in various ways. This is predominantly seen in her willingness to serve on the school’s sound and lighting team, a role she has undertaken since Year 7. Sasha has volunteered at a number of school fun
ctions including chapels, MADD nights, musicals and Presentation evenings. She is also a talented musician on piano and keyboard and regularly performs in school events and participates in chapel worship teams.
Sasha is an accomplished athlete, and has assisted in training and umpiring for the Primary Sports Gala Days. She has been athletics age champion for the last six years and represented the school at state level all-schools competition. Sasha has also competed with the Regents Park Netball Club for the last six years and was a Netball state representative for two years. Her whole family are involved in the Tiger Wests Little Athletics Club and she has competed in this club for ten years, currently competing at state level. In 2015, she was vice-captain of the club.
Sasha’s service is not only to Regents Park Christian School or in sporting teams. She is regularly involved in her church, particularly serving in the music ministry, at the sound desk and in catering. In 2016 she was an outstanding team member on the school ministry trip to the Solomon Islands, going above and beyond to support her fellow students and to bless the village community visited. With the support of her church, Sasha raised not only her own funds for the trip, but extra funds to donate a laptop to the Principal of Kilusakwalo Christian School in Malaita, Solomon Islands.
Sasha has an active interest in her family’s Russian heritage and has attended Russian School for over ten years. Sasha’s strong Christian faith and values are evident in her positive attitude, willingness to serve and set an example to others.
She brings joy to the school community and is a credit to her family, who support and encourage her consistently.
Well done Sasha!
