As another Year 12 cohort graduated, we took an opportunity to reflect on what a strange year this has been, but even more so, on the resilience of our students. They have endured lockdown, a school closure, uncertainty, the threat of illness and the fear of the unknown. As a staff we are extremely proud of the way they have worked through each difficulty without losing hope. God is great.
Our online graduation was a different kind of experience, but I think the students would agree that it was particularly personal. With only 40 students and six staff members in attendance it was intimate and surprisingly warm. It was a pleasure to welcome students and parents online to share the ceremony with us.
I would like to thank Mrs Hardin and Mrs Ha’unga who created and donated a beautiful quilt which we used for our photo backdrop. This was such a special thing for our students. Both Mrs Denholm and Mr Barnard brought a heartfelt message breathed on by the Holy Spirit which were just the right words at the right time. Our student speakers Seop Lim, Fiona Lui and Jazmine Nery spoke warmly of their experiences and gave testimony to God’s goodness by recognising how God has held them personally and communally in good times and in hard times.
Jazmine sang one of her HSC music pieces ‘Bring Him Home’ from Les Misérables which resulted in many tears of joy. It was an extremely moving performance. Thank you, Jazmine.
As a surprise for students, the staff of RPCS had recorded our own version of ‘The Blessing’. We thank Mr Chavura and Mrs Kami for their above and beyond efforts to bring this together. It was well received, and it truly sums up our prayer for this Year 12 cohort.
The Lord bless you and keep you;
The Lord make His face shine upon you,
And be gracious to you;
The Lord lift up His countenance upon you,
And give you peace.
