Last week at RPCS, we had 20 promising History students from grades 7 through to 10 join thousands of students across the nation in the Australian History Competition. From the World Wars, to the Middle Ages and to ancient Japan, this competition was an excellent opportunity for our RPCS students to expand their understanding and to assess their progress in History against other students throughout the Australian States.
The Competition is prepared by the History Teachers’ Association of Australia and run in conjunction with The Giant Classroom. While a primary goal has been to provide an interesting and challenging competition for students, we also see this as an opportunity to support teachers in the implementation of the new Australian Curriculum: History.*
With 45 minutes to complete the test Students were provided with a range of sources, and each source was a different time period throughout history. They completed the test by answering 50 multiple choice questions. They were tested on their ability to deconstruct the source and extract relevant historical information to select the correct answer.
We hope that as a result this competition will ignite a passion within our students for History so that they can continue to build on what they have already learnt into grades 11, 12 and beyond school.
Thank you so much to all the students who were involved and we look forward to seeing the results when they come in.
