English as a Second Language/Dialect (EAL/D)

Regents Park Christian School celebrates multiculturalism and the broad range of cultural backgrounds our students experience in their home and community life. EAL/D is the educational acronym used in Australia to refer to those students whose home language or first language (L1) is a language or dialect other than Standard Australian English (SAE), and who require additional support to develop proficiency in SAE, which is spoken and written formal English.
As we prepare our students with purpose, our EAL/D students are provided with opportunities to grow in their English language acquisition and flourish in their confidence with engaging in learning through the English language. RPCS uses the ESL Progressions to map and track student progress and provides support in the classroom, adjustments to classwork, additional specialist staff, and comprehensive involvement in small group programs through Macquarie University’s Multilit programs.
