On Thursday the 1st of June, our Open Boys and Under 14 Boys journeyed to Granville to compete in a regional Rugby 7s Gala Day, hosted by the NSW Waratahs.
The Open Boys started their campaign strongly drawing their first game against Richmond High School, gaining some valuable Rugby experience along the way. They then defeated the Australian Christian College in their second game in an open running masterclass.
Their final two games against Cabramatta High and Westfields Sports High, the eventual finalist on the day, were much tougher affairs against some high quality and seasoned opponents. Unfortunately, our boys were not able to outmatch either of these teams, finishing 3rd overall, but were able to challenge both across the park, impressing both with their willingness to challenge for the ball in every tackle and not give up until the final whistle. Standout performers on the day were Joshua, Leamani and Nico who all led by example in their attitude and humility throughout the day
Our Junior Boys, started their day very strongly, drawing their first game with the highly fancied Westfields Sports High in a tight arm wrestle. They then defeated Winmalee High 2nds comprehensively, earning themselves the attention of the competition. Winmalee High 1st were our final game, and proved to be very keen to make their presence felt early. Our Juniors held them out and came very close to scoring a number of times in the first half, but simply made one too many mistakes to score any tries. Winmalee hit back in the second half scoring 2 unanswered tries to pull away as victors and reduce our boys to 3rd overall on the day. All the boys played phenomenally well on the day– with Lachlan, AJ , Sam and Paula being standouts across the park. Well done boys!
