Kindergarten are still learning about what makes a book great. Recently the students participated in an art morning to explore how pictures are made. They used the book ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ by Eric Carle as inspiration.
The students painted using sponges, balloons, plastic knives and even their fingers! They observed how different textures can be created. When using the crayons, students layered the paper they were working with over different textured card as well as the cement to observe the different patterns that were created.
When collaging, students used a variety of different paper. They also created a digital image on a laptop. After the work was completed students created a page from the ‘Very Hungry Caterpillar’ by scanning in a collage they had created.
Students will be using this learning very soon to study picture books that they enjoy and look at how the illustrations were created.
