Our School is currently involved in the Literacy and Numeracy Action Plan. It is a four year project, funded by the Government, to improve achievement in Literacy and Numeracy across our school. As part of this project our school has two consultants from the Association of Independent Schools (AIS) who come and work with our teachers, students and parents.
On Thursday 15th February, our Kindergarten parents had a lovely morning learning about how they can help to support their children learning to read. Our Literacy consultant, Renae Watkins, explained how children learn to read and what skills need to be practised at home to make our children grow up to be successful readers. After all our learning, our mums and dads spent some time practising their new skills with their children. It was a lovely morning for both the parents and the children!
On Thursday 1st March, we had a terrific morning learning together about Literacy and Numeracy from Kindergarten to Year 6. Our AIS consultants, Renae and Henrietta, spoke about how children learn to read and what it means to be numerate in today’s society. They also gave suggestions of ways to help and support children at home. It was such a delight to see so many of our parents there willing to be learners, as we work together and model for our students how to be lifelong learners.
