In our Science and Technology unit, Kindergarten have been learning about “How does a garden grow?”.
We received a letter from Mary, Mary Quite Contrary asking us to learn about gardens so we can teach her how to plant a garden. Our learning included how to plant seeds and plants, what do seeds need to grow, the different types of things that can grow in gardens and how they can meet the needs of people and animals, what animals live in gardens and what do they need to survive.
After we had done all of our learning it was time to put it all into action. We worked really hard filling up the garden beds with soil. We planted seeds and plants to make a “pretty” garden with flowers and a “yummy” garden with vegetables. We watered our brand new garden to help it grow up big and strong. We also made homes and feeders for the animals.
Finally, we created some beautiful sculptures of flowers and animals to decorate our garden. We are going to have to keep working hard to look after our garden.
Thank you Mary, Mary for our amazing scarecrow! She gave it to us because we had done such great learning and worked so hard. We think we will call it Mary!
