On Friday 15 September, staff and students alike eagerly gathered in the Library for a very special lunch. This year the Book Week Luncheon enjoyed a new theme “Escape to Everywhere”. Mrs Budiawan had masterminded a creative adventure – secondary students were encouraged to read books from different themes to earn tickets to different lands which would become spending tokens on the day of the luncheon. For example reading a book from the humour genre would earn you a “ticket to Luna Park”. It was fantastic to see so many students earning tickets – I wonder if you could guess how many tickets your child earned for their favourite genre?
Thank you to our speaker Mrs Duong, she talked about escaping into the pages of a favourite book – Run Diego Run and then escaping there in real life when she lived for a year in Bolivia, she saw that there really were children living like Diego and she shared beautiful finger puppets that were made by the women of Bolivia. She encouraged us all to keep reading – no matter your age you can always escape to another world by reading.
Of course the highlight of our luncheon is always the food, and this year’s will be hard to beat. Colourful, flavourful and fun – there was something to tempt everyone. There were colourful fruit kebabs, amazing cupcakes, brownies, mini meringues, mini burgers and tiny meal trays. Students got great value for their hard earned tickets! Thank you to the many people who volunteered to create, prepare and present the delightful food.
It was a wonderful way to cap off an amazing Book Week, so keep reading whether you are young or old, together or alone, you never know where it will take you!
