On Monday, 20 March, students from Year 11 and 12 Music classes at Regents Park Christian School joined thousands of music students from across NSW in attending the Encore Concert for 2017 at the Sydney Opera House. Encore is an annual showcase that celebrates the achievements of students from government, Catholic and independent schools in NSW who excelled in the HSC Music 1, Music 2 and Music Extension courses during the previous year.
The concert featured exemplary performances and compositions presented by students for their HSC Music exams in 2016. Our students were as amazed by the diversity of the musical items as they were by their outstanding quality, ranging from Classical and Romantic repertoire, jazz and contemporary genres as well as traditional Chinese and Latin American pieces. Among the performers were Alexander Young, who placed first in the HSC Music 1 course last year, and Sean Hayashi on cello, who placed first in the Music 2 and Extension courses.
It was a fantastic afternoon of celebration as students and staff appreciated the gifts and talents that God has granted others, as well as a welcome encouragement to continue to hone and develop our own musical gifts. The students who attended are to be congratulated on their positive conduct on the excursion and the way in which they represented our school. We look forward to seeing and hearing more inspired and engaging performances and compositions from our students this year as a result of attending the Encore concert.
