At the beginning of this term Mr Barnard came to visit Kindergarten to tell us about some children that he knows who live in the Solomon Islands. We saw photos of the children and their school. Mr Barnard told us stories about how they live and what kinds of things they do for fun. He me ntioned that these children don’t have a lot of books to put it their library. He gave us a job to do. He told us that he would like us to find some great picture books that we could buy to put in their library.
This has sparked a lot of learning! Before we can tell Mr Barnard the names of some great stories we need to find out what a great story needs. We are currently looking at what make a great picture in a story book. We know that they need colour!
To find out more about colour, we had an art morning. We learned how to combine colours using dye and light boxes. We experimented with making colours lighter and darker by adding black and white. We also looked at cool and warm colours and how colours make a difference to how we feel.
Very soon, we will be putting this learning to good use by evaluating how colour is used in stories.
