On Thursday 17 October, Year 6 participated in an incursion run by The Super Pollinators. So, it was obviously about bees! Some things we learnt are…
• There are about 2000 different types of bees in Australia.
• Honey bees are not native to Australia. They were actually brought on the Isabella boat!
• Bees are not available in some countries (e.g. areas of China) due to the humans who are spraying poison on them, and the pesticides that kill them.
• 70% of bees live in dirt and 30% of bees live in their own holes in dead trees.
We made bee hotels! A bee hotel is a box of wood with bamboo sticks in it creating a home for the bees to lay their eggs in, and it protects them from predators. This whole incursion was a blast! We would like to give a big thanks to The Super Pollinators. Written by Isabelle
